Mustafa Shobeir said Egypt came close to a famous win over Argentina, but a handful of small details decided the knockout tie.
The Egypt goalkeeper said his side produced a performance worthy of the national team’s name before a late Argentina comeback sent them out of the tournament. He added that every player had done their part in a team display that pushed the holders all the way.
Shobeir said the margin between success and failure was tiny. "We were not far from beating Argentina," he said, describing the result as one shaped by a few small moments.
He also expressed disappointment at missing out on a place in the next round, saying Egypt had been close to victory or at least to staying alive in the competition. Despite the exit, he thanked Egypt’s supporters and said the players had given everything to make them happy.
Shobeir ended by saying Egypt would come back stronger in future tournaments.
