Norway began their 2026 World Cup campaign with a 4-1 win over Iraq, but Ståle Solbakken said the result should not distract from the work still ahead.

Erling Haaland scored twice as Norway took three points in Group I and moved top on goal difference ahead of France. Solbakken said his players carried out the game plan well and kept their concentration throughout the match.

"We had a very good start and the players executed the tactical plan with high focus," he said after the game. "Getting three points in the first World Cup match is important, but there is still a long way to go."

He also highlighted Norway's attacking strength, while stressing that the win came from the collective rather than one standout performance.

Solbakken paid credit to Iraq as well, saying they made life difficult at times despite the scoreline. He now turns to Norway's next game against France, which he said could decide who finishes top of the group.
