Staqiu wins player-of-the-match after Canada beat South Africa

Stephen Staqiu was named player of the match after Canada’s 1-0 win over South Africa in the first round of the 2026 World Cup knockout stage.

FIFA officials gave the award to Staqiu after he scored the only goal of the game and helped Canada move into the next round.

Canada will now face the winner of the Netherlands v Morocco tie in the last 16.
