Switzerland booked a place in the World Cup 2026 round of 16 after beating Algeria 2-0 in Vancouver.
Breel Embolo opened the scoring in the 10th minute after a move involving Manzambi, and Dan Ndoye doubled the lead early in the second half, finishing in the 46th minute.
Switzerland controlled the first half after going ahead and stayed in charge after the break, while Algeria struggled to turn pressure into clear chances. The Swiss came close to adding more goals on a few occasions.
Argentine referee Yael Falcón Pérez booked Algeria’s Fares Chaïbi and Hicham Boudaoui.
Denis Zakaria also picked up an injury, leaving his involvement in the next match uncertain. Switzerland, who topped Group B, will face either Colombia or Ghana in the round of 16.
