Switzerland top Group B after beating Canada 2-1

Switzerland beat Canada 2-1 in Vancouver to finish top of Group B at the 2026 World Cup and secure their place in the last 16.

Ruben Vargas opened the scoring shortly after half-time, with Johan Manzambi adding a second in the 56th minute at BC Place. Promise David pulled one back for Canada in the 75th minute, but Switzerland saw out the result.

The win took Murat Yakin’s side to seven points and first place in the group. Canada finished second on four points, advancing on goal difference ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosnia also ended on four points after beating Qatar 3-1 in the group’s other match, but their goal difference left them third. They progress as one of the best third-placed teams, while Qatar were eliminated with one point.

Brazilian referee Ramon Abatti booked Canada’s Kyle Larin and Liam Millar, and Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka in the first half.
