Sabri Lamouchi has been sacked as Tunisia head coach after the team’s 5-1 defeat by Sweden in its opening 2026 World Cup match.
The result triggered an emergency meeting request from officials at the Tunisian Football Federation, with Lamouchi’s position under immediate review after what was described as a disastrous start to the tournament.
Sweden took control early and never let go, repeatedly exposing Tunisia’s defensive weaknesses on a difficult night for the North African side. Tunisia struggled to cope with the pace and organisation of the opposition throughout the match.
The defeat has drawn sharp criticism from supporters and analysts, especially given the expectations around Tunisia before the tournament. Lamouchi had said before the game that his squad was ready physically, technically and mentally.
After the loss, he admitted costly mistakes played a decisive role and said Tunisia would need immediate improvement to keep its World Cup hopes alive.
