Uefa has changed its disciplinary rules for the 2026-27 Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, increasing the threshold for one-match bans from three yellow cards to four.
Card suspensions pushed back
Under the revised rules, the next suspension threshold also moves up. Players will now face bans after their sixth and eighth yellow cards, rather than the fifth and seventh.
Uefa said the changes reflect the competition’s new format, which has altered the balance between the number of matches and yellow cards, and increased the risk of suspension through accumulation.
Stadium clocks can show added time
Uefa has also updated its stadium clock regulations. Match organisers were previously not allowed to display time elapsed after normal time in each half, or during extra time.
The governing body has rewritten the standard clause so stadium clocks may now show elapsed or remaining time. Added time must be displayed as additional minutes at the end of 45, 90, 105 and 120 minutes, rather than as continuous game time.
