UEFA is reportedly weighing tougher measures against FIFA president Gianni Infantino, with the 2027 FIFA presidential election drawing closer. The French journalist Roman Molina made the claim on X, saying the European body has not closed the door on further pressure.
Boycott idea set aside
Molina said UEFA members have moved away from the idea of boycotting the Women’s Under-20 World Cup, which runs in Poland from 5 to 27 September. That does not appear to have ended the wider dispute with Infantino.
According to Molina, UEFA is now considering “more decisive measures” against the FIFA president, although no details have been made public. UEFA has not commented officially on the report.
Money row over World Cup investment
The tension comes amid FIFA’s push to attract private investment into the World Cup. UEFA, Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation are among the bodies that have not backed the plan.
The row has also raised broader questions about how football’s global finances and decision-making should be handled.
2027 election looms
Infantino, who has led FIFA since 2016, is expected to seek another term at the election in Morocco in March 2027. Any split with major confederations could matter politically, but it remains unclear whether UEFA’s next move will affect the vote.
