Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea has left them without a win in nine straight matches in all competitions, a run the club have not suffered since 1988.
A long winless run
United have taken three draws and six defeats since their 4-0 win over Sabah. The sequence includes losses to Manchester City, Brighton, Atlético Madrid, Como, Bournemouth and Chelsea, plus draws against Fulham, Tottenham and Leeds United.
The numbers are worse than the club’s previous 1988 run, when Sir Alex Ferguson’s side went nine games without victory but lost only twice and drew seven.

How the Chelsea game turned
United had a promising first half against Chelsea, but they lost control after the break when they conceded and Lisandro Martínez was sent off. The result adds more pressure on Carrick as the club’s next fixtures carry more weight.
