The world's most expensive stadium to host 8 World Cup matches

The United States will begin their 2026 World Cup campaign against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The match will be played at the venue widely described as the most expensive stadium ever built for football. Reports put the construction cost at more than $5.5bn.

SoFi sits on the former Hollywood Park horse-racing site and is home to the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. Its standard capacity is more than 70,000, with the option to expand beyond 100,000 for major events.

The stadium will host eight World Cup games, including fixtures involving the United States and Iran. Its standout features include a vast semi-transparent roof, a 4K HDR double-sided ring screen with more than 80 million pixels, and an artificial lake outside the ground.

The United States are in Group D with Paraguay, Australia and Turkey. Concerns have been raised about ticket prices, with some starting at $1,120, and whether that will affect attendance.
