Mamadou Fofana

Mamadou Fofana is a powerful, composed centre-back who combines physical strength with intelligent distribution. Comfortable using both feet, he can progress the ball from the back while remaining reliable in defensive duels and aerial situations. His experience across France and Türkiye has developed him into a mature defender who reads danger well and rarely relies solely on physicality. Fofana's size, athleticism and composure make him particularly effective at protecting the defensive line and building play from deep.

At New England Revolution, Fofana's job is to anchor the centre of the defence, win physical battles and provide a calm first pass when possession is recovered. His ability to play with either foot gives the backline flexibility when progressing the ball, while his positioning and strength allow him to defend crosses, transitions and direct attacks. With extensive experience in Ligue 1, Ligue 2 and international football with Mali, he brings the defensive maturity needed to organise and stabilise the back line.
