FSV Mainz 05 vs Bayern München 1-2

Bayern München won 2-1 at the MEWA Arena after Joshua Kimmich and Lennart Karl put them two goals up, and Phillip Tietz pulled one back for FSV Mainz 05 in stoppage time. Mainz were left with too much to do after Bayern struck once in each half and held on at the end.

Kimmich opened the scoring in the 14th minute, turning in Harry Kane's assist for 1-0. Mainz thought they had levelled in the 44th minute through Lee Jae-Sung, but VAR ruled the goal out. Bayern then doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Karl scored from Kane's pass.

The visitors changed their goalkeeper on 45 minutes, with Manuel Neuer off and Jonas Urbig on. Mainz made two changes on 63 minutes, and Tietz came off the bench before scoring in the second minute of stoppage time, assisted by Benedict Hollerbach, who had also come on in the 68th minute, to make it 2-1. Bayern made two changes on 67 minutes and another two on 86 minutes, while Mainz kept pushing but never found an equaliser.

Bayern had 69% of possession, 717 passes to Mainz's 315, and 26 shots to 11. They also finished with nine shots on target to one, 2.67 expected goals to 0.59, and eight corners to seven. Mainz had six saves to Bayern's none, and both sides committed eight fouls.
