Four clubs battle to sign Fenerbahçe star

Al Ahli have joined Stuttgart, Ipswich Town and Coventry City in the race to sign Fenerbahce midfielder Sidiki Cherif, according to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.

Growing interest

Sabuncuoglu said the 19-year-old Frenchman is attracting attention from several clubs ahead of the summer window. He first mentioned interest from Ipswich and Coventry, then added that one club from Saudi Arabia and one from the Bundesliga had also entered the picture.

He later identified the Bundesliga side as Stuttgart and the Saudi club as Al Ahli.

Saudi rule change

Sabuncuoglu also pointed to recent changes in Saudi Pro League rules on foreign and young player registration as a reason for the interest. He said the new system allows clubs to move young players between the first team, youth sides and academy groups more easily.

That, he argued, has made Cherif a more strategic target for clubs looking to develop young talent within the squad structure. The reporter said the revised rules could also push some young players already in first-team set-ups out of the cycle or into different roles.
