Arsenal beat Manchester City 3-0 in the English Super Cup to claim the season's first trophy. The result came in City’s first official match under their new manager, while Arsenal controlled the key moments throughout.
Fast start from Arsenal
Riccardo Calafiori opened the scoring after 23 seconds, giving Arsenal an early grip on the contest. The goal settled the London side and forced City to chase the game from the outset.
City tried to respond by keeping the ball and pushing their lines higher, but Arsenal stayed compact through midfield and organised at the back. Kai Havertz doubled the lead in the 28th minute with a header, leaving Arteta’s side in control before half-time.
Odegaard finishes the job
Martin Odegaard made it 3-0 in the 48th minute, ending any realistic hope of a City comeback. Arsenal then managed the tempo well, both in possession and without the ball.
City made changes and adjusted their shape, but could not turn their spell of pressure into clear chances. Arsenal finished the game as the sharper side in terms of structure, chance creation and concentration.
