Spain beat Uruguay 1-0 in Guadalajara to seal top spot in Group H and book their place in the 2026 World Cup last 16.
Álex Baena scored the only goal in the 42nd minute after a costly error from Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. The result took Spain to seven points, enough to finish above the rest of the group.
Before kick-off, all four teams in Group H still had a route to the knockout stage heading into the day's simultaneous matches. Spain, who arrived on four points, needed a win to confirm first place and did exactly that.
Uruguay's two previous draws left the group tight, but this defeat ended their campaign early. Marcelo Bielsa's side now head home after missing out on progression.
