Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at Signal Iduna Park to win the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup and claim the first trophy of the season.
Bayern strike before half-time
The game pitted the Bundesliga and German Cup winners from last season against the league runners-up, and Bayern controlled the first half. Nathaniel Brown, one of the club’s new signings, took advantage of a Dortmund defensive error in the 28th minute to open the scoring on his first official appearance for the club.
Michael Olise doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time after Job Bellingham lost possession. Olise burst clear of the Dortmund defence and finished to send Kompany’s side into the break 2-0 up.
Dortmund push back, Neuer holds firm
Dortmund pressed harder after the interval and pulled a goal back through Silva in the 75th minute. Manuel Neuer then made several important saves to keep the hosts from equalising.
Jamal Musiala was absent from Bayern’s squad because of medical reasons. Kompany used Olise in an attacking role in his absence, and the move paid off as Bayern saw out the win.
