South Africa head coach Hugo Bros has warned that his side will need to stay switched on for the full 90 minutes against Canada in the World Cup round of 16.
Bros described Canada as a very physical team that press the ball from start to finish, and said Bafana Bafana will have to match that intensity. He added that South Africa are not satisfied with what they have already achieved at the tournament and want to keep pushing.
“We are building history,” Bros said, stressing what a place in the next round would mean for South Africa. He also pointed to the difficulty of reaching this stage, saying his earlier squad choices drew criticism because he selected players from smaller clubs and lower divisions rather than sticking with bigger names.
Bros said the travel and time-zone changes during the tournament have been tiring, but insisted the experience matters for his squad. He did not say whether this would be his final World Cup as South Africa coach.
