João Cancelo has backed Lamine Yamal for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, saying no other contender has a stronger case for the award.
Cancelo makes his choice clear
The Barcelona defender said Yamal’s performances last season put him ahead of the rest of the field. He also pointed to the honours the 19-year-old has collected with Spain and Barcelona.
Cancelo went further, describing Yamal as the best talent and best player in the world at present, and said the Ballon d'Or should go to him.

Cancelo’s comments add to the public backing already given by Deco and Hansi Flick, who had also spoken positively about Yamal’s chances.
Yamal is among the 30 nominees for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, with his form for Barcelona and Spain keeping him in the centre of the race.
