Steve Clarke said Scotland’s 1-0 win over Haiti was built on collective effort and marked an ideal start to the 2026 World Cup.
Clarke was pleased with the three points after the opening group game and said the result matters most at this stage of the tournament. He said his players stayed focused throughout and showed real character in difficult moments.
Haiti made life awkward for Scotland with a hard-working display, but Clarke said his side kept their tactical discipline and worked hard to hold on to the lead.
He also praised Scotland’s defence after the clean sheet, saying it was important to keep the opposition out in the first match. Clarke added that the result could lift confidence heading into the next group fixtures.
