World Cups
Joint-most ever — 1954 · 1974 · 1990 · 2014. From the Miracle of Bern to Götze in the Maracanã.
“"Twenty-two men chase a ball, and in the end, the Germans always win."”— Gary Lineker, half in awe, half in despair
Siegermentalität — winner's mentality. For decades Germany rarely had the most beautiful team, and it never mattered. They had method, nerve, and a frightening habit of being there at the end. The ultimate tournament side: efficient, organised, ruthless.
And when it broke, they re-engineered it. After a disastrous Euro 2000, Germany rebuilt its entire youth system from the ground up — and out came the team that won 2014. The machine has stalled again recently. But writing it off has historically been a very expensive mistake.
Four stars, three European crowns, and more World Cup finals than any nation in history. This is a cabinet built by relentlessness — and one infamous scoreline that doubles as another team's nightmare.
White with black, four gold stars, the flag at the trim — one of the most iconic shirts in the sport. Plus the cult-classic green change strip.
⭐ Four stars — One gold star for each World Cup won: 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014. The fifth is the whole mission of this file.
🇩🇪 Flag at the trim — Black, red and gold of the Bundesflagge run through the collar and cuffs — restraint, precision, identity.
🟢 The green change shirt — The cult away strip, a German classic rooted in mid-century football lore and beloved by collectors.
👕 Worn since 1908 — The white-with-black home kit is the oldest, most iconic shirt in international football. Tradition with a stripe of modernity.
05 · Group E — The Road · WC 2026
Group E runs June 14–25, against debutants Curaçao, three-time African champions Côte d'Ivoire and a dangerous Ecuador. Germany topped qualifying (five wins of six, signing off 6-0 over Slovakia). "Manageable," said Nagelsmann — but a wounded giant has everything to prove. Restore order in the group, then go hunting the fifth star toward the final at MetLife on July 19.
There is the greatest German player, and then there is everyone else. Franz Beckenbauer didn't just dominate his era — he reinvented a position, gliding out from the back as the elegant attacking libero nobody had seen before.
He lifted the World Cup as captain in 1974, then did it again as manager in 1990 — a feat almost no one in history matches. Equal parts aristocrat and architect, he was German football's emperor in every sense. The Kaiser, who passed in 2024, casts the longest shadow in the game here.
No grudge in football is more mutual. Just across the border, in bright orange, sit the people who hate Germany most — and the feeling is entirely, joyfully returned. Efficiency against artistry, since 1974.
↔ Cross-reference: in File 14 (Oranje), the Dutch name Germany as their single greatest enemy. The feeling, naturally, is completely mutual.
The hat-trick — and that goal that may or may not have crossed the line. The original Wembley wound, debated to this day.
The extra-time dagger that broke German hearts at their own home semi-final. Germany have still never beaten Italy at a World Cup.
Rolled into an empty net to seal it — the goal that confirmed the champions were going home in the group stage.
A Champions League-winning rock for Real Madrid, an absolute wall for Germany — and the defender opponents most love to loathe. The clashes, the tongue out, the relentless wind-ups. Antonio Rüdiger plays every game on the edge, and never apologises.
Strikers dread him; teammates would run through walls for him. **The fine line between warrior and villain** isn't a problem for Rüdiger — it's where he chooses to live.
Every machine needs a brain. Florian Wirtz is rated the finest attacking midfielder on the planet right now — the player who turns Germany's rebuild from promising into dangerous. Glide, slip the pass, arrive in the box; do it in the knockouts and the fifth star is suddenly very real. With Musiala dovetailing alongside him, Germany have the most thrilling creative pair at the tournament. This is whose World Cup it could become.
Everyone writes them off.
Everyone regrets it.
