Rodrigo De Paul has said Argentina want to be in the 2026 World Cup right through to the final day, as he outlined the champions' expectations after their 3-0 friendly win over Iceland.
Speaking after the match, the midfielder said Argentina are working well and feel in good shape, but insisted the real judgement will come at the World Cup. He said the team want to compete just as they did before the 2022 tournament, with the aim of arriving on day one and leaving after the final.
De Paul added that Argentina will always be seen as contenders because of what they have won, pointing to their previous Copa America triumph and World Cup title as the reason for the pressure and excitement around the side.
He also addressed supporters, saying the squad will do everything possible to bring joy again and hopes to see the same unity that emerged in Qatar and at the Obelisk celebrations in Buenos Aires after the 2022 win.
