FIFA has unveiled a major redesign of its pre-match ceremony for the 2026 World Cup, with the changes set to alter the opening moments of each game.
The biggest shift comes during the national anthems. Instead of only the 11 starters standing on the pitch, all players in the matchday squad, including substitutes, will gather around a central banner in the middle circle.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the idea is meant to reflect unity, pride and a collective feeling that reaches both the team and the crowd.
The player walk-out has also been reworked. Teams will now enter the field with children and pass through dedicated archways, while large flags, central banners and fresh visual design elements will form part of the presentation.
For selected matches and the later stages of the tournament, FIFA says extra effects such as fireworks and coloured smoke will be added to increase the visual impact.
Traditional football protocols will still follow, including the team photo for the starting XI, handshakes and the coin toss.
