Fifa's World Cup revenue forecast rises to $15bn

Fifa expects to make a record $15bn from the next World Cup, according to reports in Europe.

The Guardian said the governing body had originally forecast $11bn from the tournament, which will be staged in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

It added that Fifa president Gianni Infantino told national associations at a meeting on Saturday that the higher figure was driven by hospitality income and ticket sales.

The report also said Fifa has not set a cap on resale prices in its official secondary ticket market, and takes a 15% fee from both the seller and the buyer on each ticket sale.

By comparison, Fifa's revenue from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was about $5.769bn. That tournament had 32 teams and 64 matches, while the next edition will feature 48 teams and 104 games.
