Gary Neville says Arsenal should win the Premier League after the first round of matches, arguing that several of their main rivals have already made poor starts.
Neville’s early title call
Speaking on the latest Sky Sports podcast, the former Manchester United defender said he had expected a wildly unpredictable season because of the changes across the league. But after one weekend, his view shifted sharply towards Arsenal.
Neville pointed to defeats for Tottenham and Manchester United, Liverpool’s narrow escape and Manchester City’s struggle to beat a home opponent as evidence that the title race has already tilted towards Mikel Arteta’s side.
According to GOL and Sky Sports, he said Arsenal should win the league “like water off a duck’s back”, adding that the opening weekend had played out much as he expected for the teams at the top.
Arsenal began the new season with a convincing win, while their main challengers dropped points or survived scares in their first matches.
