Erling Haaland’s international scoring rate has put him almost level with Kylian Mbappé, despite playing far fewer matches for Norway than the France captain has for his country.

At the point this comparison was published, Haaland was two goals behind Mbappé for international strikes, even though he had played roughly 50 fewer games. That gap has become the clearest marker in the statistical rivalry between the pair.
According to L'Équipe, Haaland reached 55 Norway goals in 48 appearances with a double against Italy in November 2025, matching Mbappé’s tally of 55 goals in 94 games at the time.
Different paths with their national teams
Mbappé has been a France international since 2017 and has played a key role at major tournaments. Haaland has followed a different route with Norway, with the 2026 World Cup seen as another chance to add to his total.
Their styles also differ. Mbappé is most dangerous from wide areas and one-on-one situations, while Haaland specialises in central positions and finishing moves inside the penalty area.
