Harry Kane eyes Ballon d'Or after second Golden Shoe

Harry Kane is hoping a record-breaking season ends with the 2026 Ballon d'Or after collecting the European Golden Shoe for the second time in Munich on Wednesday, 19 August.

Kane's record season

The Bayern Munich forward scored 36 goals in 31 Bundesliga matches in 2025/26, the third-best single-season scoring return in Bundesliga history. He also helped Bayern win the Bundesliga and the German Cup.

Kane had already won the Golden Shoe in 2023/24, but said the second one meant more to him. Across club and international football last season, he scored 73 goals, putting him among the leading Ballon d'Or contenders.

England captain pushes on

His form was not limited to club football. Kane scored six goals at the 2026 World Cup and took his overall tally in the competition to 14, making him England's all-time leading scorer at World Cups.

Bayern lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-finals, while England were beaten 2-1 by Argentina at the same stage of the World Cup. Kane said the final outcome is out of his hands, but added that he had done everything he could and that last season was clearly the best of his career.

The 2026 Ballon d'Or will be handed out in late October in London. Kane now sits behind only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on two European Golden Shoes.
