Havertz sets German Premier League scoring record

Kai Havertz became the highest-scoring German in Premier League history when he scored early against Liverpool at Anfield. The Arsenal striker's goal took him to 46 league goals, one clear of Ilkay Gundogan's previous record of 45.

Record and result

Arsenal won at Anfield for the first time in 14 years and moved back to the top of the table. Havertz, 27, scored his third Premier League goal of the season and continued his run as Mikel Arteta's central striker.

He scored 19 times in three Premier League seasons at Chelsea between 2020 and 2023, then added 27 for Arsenal after his £65 million move in the summer of 2023. His best league return remains 13 goals in the 2023-24 season.

Where he stands among German scorers

Gundogan had led the German scoring list with his 45 goals for Manchester City. Behind Havertz sit Pascal Gross on 34 for Brighton and Mesut Ozil on 33 for Arsenal. Jurgen Klinsmann scored 29, with Lukas Podolski further down the list.

Havertz has now scored three times this season and remains one of Arsenal's main attacking options. His move to Arsenal has given him a more defined role up front after spells as an attacking midfielder and wide player at Chelsea.
