Imam Ashour has said Egypt’s World Cup campaign is far from over as they prepare to face Australia in the last 16 on Friday night.
The midfielder said the squad are fully focused on the tie and only thinking about beating Australia, with Egypt looking to build on their historic passage from the group stage.
Ashour also said his position in the side does not concern him, adding that he will follow coach Hossam Hassan’s instructions and play wherever he is asked.
"The position I play in does not occupy my mind. I carry out the coach’s instructions and I am ready to play in any position," he said.
He highlighted Australia’s strength in aerial balls and set pieces, saying Egypt have prepared for those situations. Ashour also brushed aside comments in the Australian media that sought to play down Egypt’s status.
"We do not focus on such things," he said. "Our focus is only on the match."
