Derby della Madonnina: The Battle for Supremacy in Milan

The derby numbers

Inter and Milan meet again tonight in the 247th Derby della Madonnina, a fixture that has long carried more than league points. Inter lead the overall head-to-head with 91 wins to Milan's 84, but the recent record tilts the other way.

Inter have gone seven derbies without a win, with Milan taking five of those meetings and the other two ending level. That run has become a problem for Christian Chivu's side as they try to end a derby drought.

Form and stakes

Inter arrive unbeaten in Serie A, with eight wins and one draw from their first nine league matches, leaving them top with 25 points. That record gives them a strong start to the season, but it has not carried over into this rivalry.

Milan sit fifth on 18 points under Ruben Amorim and know a derby win would mean more than three points. It would cut the gap to the top and extend their recent control of the city contest.

San Siro now hosts a night built around two different aims: Inter want to break the spell, while Milan want to keep hold of it.
