Jesse Marsch has described Morocco as a team with “no weakness” before Canada’s World Cup last-16 meeting with the 2022 semi-finalists.
The Canada head coach said his side will need courage at the back and the discipline to stop Morocco controlling the game. He added that Morocco’s midfield is dangerous, energetic and fluid, and warned Canada could be punished if all 11 players do not stick to the plan.
“We are exactly where we expected and wanted to be,” Marsch said. “We know Morocco are going to challenge us in every aspect of the game. This team really has no weakness. We have to focus on our strengths and do the things we are good at to the highest level. Then we will see if that performance works against a team like this.”
Canada have already made history at this tournament by claiming their first point and first win at a World Cup. Marsch said the camp is not treating the 2-1 loss to Morocco at the 2022 group stage as a source of revenge.
He also confirmed Alphonso Davies is available after returning from injury against South Africa, when he came on in the 75th minute in the last 16. Marsch said he expects Canada to produce their best performance of the tournament.
