Harry Kane has broken his silence after England’s World Cup semi-final defeat by Argentina, saying the result has left him with a deep sense of emptiness.
England went ahead in the match and were close to reaching another final, but Argentina turned it around, with Lionel Messi providing two decisive assists as the game slipped away from Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Kane, who scored six goals at the tournament, posted on social media that England had put everything into the campaign over seven weeks but it was still not enough. He added that expectations of the team are high and said that was fair, while stressing England still lack the final piece of the puzzle after eight years of pushing at the door.
Tuchel has faced criticism for his defensive substitutions, but the FA has backed the 52-year-old and wants him to continue until 2028. Kane, who turns 33 at the end of the month, said he hopes England can bounce back, though his place at the next World Cup remains uncertain. He is more likely to be involved at Euro 2028 on home soil.
