Kovacic says City still count on him amid exit talk

Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic says the club still plans to use him, despite fresh speculation over his future.

Contract situation

The 32-year-old is into the final year of his deal and has not yet been offered an extension. Reports in Italy have linked Juventus and Inter, Kovacic's former club, with a move for the Croatia international.

Limited minutes last season

Kovacic made only nine appearances for City last season after missing much of the campaign with Achilles and ankle injuries.

Guardiola comments on his future

New head coach Enzo Maresca gave little away when asked about Kovacic after Saturday's friendly against Inter. "Mateo is our player," he said. "As long as he's here, I'll try to help him. My job is to help the players perform at their best. If he's here, I'm happy and we'll continue working together."
