Luis Enrique says Paris Saint-Germain are chasing a third straight Champions League title, a feat only Real Madrid have managed, as they prepare to face Aston Villa in the European Super Cup.
PSG set sights on history
The PSG coach told UEFA’s official website that his side can match Real Madrid’s record of three consecutive European Cup wins. He said no team in Europe has greater motivation.
Enrique also argued that PSG’s standing has changed over the past two years. Two years ago, he said, it was almost impossible to place them among the favourites; now, he believes nobody can ignore them.
Enrique backs long-term project
The Spaniard said his 2023 meeting with sporting director Luis Campos lasted only 15 minutes before both men realised they shared the same vision. He described the PSG job as the biggest coaching investment he has made and said he hopes to stay for years.
Enrique added that he is driven by competition and by improving his own work, his relationships with players and the team’s performances.
Villa test ahead
Looking ahead to the Super Cup, Enrique said Aston Villa will provide a tough test. He also said Spanish football remains at the top of the global game in every respect.
