Romelu Lukaku became Belgium’s all-time leading scorer in World Cup finals after netting his sixth goal in the tournament during a 5-1 win over New Zealand in Vancouver.
Lukaku, introduced in the 85th minute for Charles De Ketelaere, scored a minute later with a header to make it 4-1 and move past Marc Wilmots’ mark of five World Cup goals, which had stood since 2002.
Wilmots had scored his five goals across the 1998 and 2002 finals. Lukaku’s latest strike added another record to his international tally, with the 33-year-old already Belgium’s top scorer overall.
He now has 125 caps and 90 goals for his country.
