Romelu Lukaku said Belgium’s dramatic 3-2 win over Senegal came from the squad’s character and unity after his late goal helped turn the game around.
The striker came off the bench and scored in the 85th minute, playing a key part in Belgium’s comeback. He said Senegal were one of the strongest sides in the tournament and praised their technical, physical and tactical level.
Lukaku added that the game’s higher intensity and Belgium’s team spirit made the difference in the end. He said he is tired of tense, breathless matches, but accepted that wins like this bring confidence to the group and are especially satisfying for supporters.
The forward also said he felt his late father was watching over him in difficult moments, and that this was his third influential appearance as a substitute in the competition.
He explained why Youri Tielemans took the decisive penalty, saying he wanted the responsibility but did not feel mentally ready for such a pressure moment. Lukaku said the team’s interests came first.
