Manchester United make one of their worst league starts

Manchester United have made one of the worst starts in their league history, taking just seven points from their first nine Premier League matches.

Current form

United sit 17th after one win, four draws and four defeats. They have scored 10 goals and conceded 15, and their shape and Michael Carrick’s future have come under scrutiny.

The club have collected only seven of 27 possible points in 2026-27.

Where it ranks historically

According to Futbali, United’s start compares badly with several previous seasons. In 1930-31, they had no points after nine matches. They also managed only four points from nine games in 1972-73.

With the modern points system applied, their tally after nine matches in the 1892-83 season would have been five points. United also had five points after nine games in 1986-87, while they reached seven points in 1960-61.
