Kylian Mbappé became France’s all-time top scorer and the country’s leading World Cup scorer after netting twice in a 3-1 win over Senegal at MetLife Stadium.
The 27-year-old opened the scoring early in the second half before sealing the result with a late strike. Those goals took his France total to 58, moving him past Olivier Giroud and onto a new national record.
Mbappé’s brace also lifted him to 14 World Cup goals, the most by any France player, and made him the youngest player to reach that mark. He passed Just Fontaine’s previous record of 13, set at the 1958 World Cup.
