France sealed qualification for the World Cup knockout stage with a 3-0 win over Iraq in Philadelphia, a match delayed by two hours after a storm warning and lightning scare.
Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring in the 15th minute, driving in a powerful shot from outside the box after being set up by Michael Olise. France kept the pressure on, but Iraq held firm to reach half-time only a goal down.
The second half began late because spectators were asked to leave the stands for safety during the severe weather. France then doubled their lead in the 55th minute when a poor Iraq restart let Ousmane Dembélé feed Mbappé for his second. In the 66th minute, Olise added his second assist of the night with a neat outside-of-the-foot pass for Dembélé, who scored from inside the area.
Canada's Drew Fischer officiated the game and showed one yellow card, to Iraq midfielder Amir Al-Ammari. France move on with six points, becoming the fifth team to reach the last 16 after Mexico, Canada, Germany and Argentina.
