Kylian Mbappé has set a new World Cup scoring record after netting twice in France’s 6-4 defeat by England in the 2026 third-place match.
The forward’s brace took him to 10 goals at the 2026 tournament, putting him top of the scoring charts. But the result went England’s way in a high-scoring game played from 00:30 on Sunday.
More significantly, Mbappé now has 22 goals in 22 World Cup appearances. That leaves him with the most goals any player has ever scored in the history of the competition.
His two goals were not enough to prevent France from finishing on the wrong side of the 10-goal contest.
