Edouard Mendy said Senegal did not execute its tactical plan in the 3-1 defeat to France in Group Nine of the 2026 World Cup.
The Al Ahli goalkeeper said Senegal were too passive and lacked movement, despite reaching half-time level at 0-0. He added that the team needed to raise its level after the break and be more precise in the final third.
Mendy said matches against sides such as France demand accuracy in both boxes and praised the quality in the French squad. He also said Senegal had to take lessons from the opening game and improve their consistency in possession.
The 34-year-old described the performance as uneven and said Senegal could have done better. He finished by pointing to the next group game against Norway, saying the group stage is still open. Senegal’s other Group Nine opponents are Iraq.
