Messi becomes World Cup’s all-time top scorer

Lionel Messi became the leading scorer in World Cup history after finding the net for Argentina against Austria in Dallas.

Messi missed a penalty in the eighth minute, but made up for it with a fine finish in the 39th minute in the Group G match, which kicked off at 20:30 local time.

The goal took him to 17 career World Cup goals, moving him past Germany’s Miroslav Klose, who had 16.

Brazil’s Ronaldo is third on 15, while Kylian Mbappé sits fourth on 14.
