Milan have reached a full agreement with Ruben Amorim to take charge at San Siro.
The Portuguese coach, who spent six months out of work after his January dismissal from Manchester United, is now close to signing a contract through 2028, with an option to extend it by a further year.
His salary is understood to be around €4 million a year, plus bonuses. Milan are said to have viewed that figure as realistic given their reduced income and absence from the Champions League.
The move also affects Manchester United’s finances. After sacking Amorim on 5 January 2026, United had been liable for £15.9 million in compensation to him and his staff. That payment will now not be required if he completes the switch to Milan.
Milan had considered other options, including Oliver Glasner, after failing to qualify for the Champions League in 2025-26 and ending their partnership with Massimiliano Allegri. Talks accelerated in mid-June before Amorim emerged as the club’s main choice for the rebuild.
