Mohamed Salah has headed to the Turkish league

Mohamed Salah has agreed a two-year deal to join Trabzonspor, ending a summer of speculation over the forward’s next move after his Liverpool exit.

Transfer confirmed

The 34-year-old became a free agent after his emotional departure from Liverpool and had been linked with several clubs, including sides in Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Trabzonspor have now said publicly that they have opened talks and laid out plans for his arrival.

Beşiktaş had also been considered a serious option, but the Istanbul club ruled itself out because of financial limits.

Arrival plans in Turkey

Trabzonspor said Salah is due to arrive at Istanbul Atatürk Airport on Wednesday 5 August at 12:00 local time, before travelling to Trabzon later that evening. The club said further details of the welcome will be shared through its official channels during the day.

Reports in Turkey say Trabzonspor have prepared a salary package worth €17 million a year, which would make Salah the highest-paid player in Turkish football history. The club hope the signing can help them challenge for a Super Lig title they last won in 2022.
