Real Madrid are set to bring José Mourinho back to the Santiago Bernabéu after Benfica confirmed he has left the Portuguese club.
According to the information shared, Madrid have formally registered their interest and will pay €15 million for the deal. Mourinho has also given his approval to return, while Fabrizio Romano said the agreement between the two sides has been finalised.
The move would reunite Madrid with the coach who led them from 2010 to 2013. During that spell, Mourinho won La Liga and the Copa del Rey and helped end Barcelona’s grip on the domestic game under Pep Guardiola.
The reported decision suggests Madrid want a manager known for competitive edge, experience and dressing-room control. But the appointment also carries risk, with critics questioning whether Mourinho’s style still fits modern football.
Supporters of the move argue he remains one of the few coaches able to handle top-level pressure and star players, and believe a second spell could help Madrid chase more European success.
