Netherlands and Japan set for Group F showdown

The Netherlands face Japan in a key Group F meeting at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with kick-off set for 11:30pm. Two of the most consistent sides in world football arrive at the 2026 World Cup looking to take control of the group early.

The Dutch bring a squad built around experience and youth. Virgil van Dijk anchors the defence, while Frenkie de Jong, Ryan Gravenberch, Tijjani Reijnders and Marten de Roon give Ronald Koeman options in midfield. Cody Gakpo, Memphis Depay, Donyell Malen and Crysencio Summerville provide depth in attack.

Questions remain over the back line, though, with Jurrien Timber’s fitness and the absence of other important names leaving some uncertainty around the defence.

Japan arrive with a largely Europe-based squad and a clear tactical identity. Kaoru Mitoma and Takumi Minamino are missing through injury, but Takefusa Kubo, Daichi Kamada, Ritsu Doan, Junya Ito and captain Wataru Endo still give the Samurai Blue plenty of quality.

The tactical battle should centre on midfield control. The Netherlands are likely to try to dictate possession, while Japan will look to press high, move quickly and break at pace.
