Neymar says he will not play for Brazil again

Neymar has said he will not play for Brazil again, calling time on what he described as his glorious spell with the national side.

World Cup farewell

The Santos forward made the comment when asked whether he would feature at the 2030 World Cup. He said his “golden era” with Brazil had ended, adding that he had given everything to the shirt but no longer felt the same motivation and desire.

Neymar was part of Brazil’s squad at the 2026 World Cup despite carrying an injury. He played twice, totalling 37 minutes, and scored once in the round of 16 defeat to Norway.

Record Brazil career

The 34-year-old appeared at the 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026 World Cups. Across those tournaments, he played 15 matches, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.

In total, Neymar has made 130 appearances for Brazil, scoring 80 goals and registering 59 assists, both national team records.

He remains under contract with Santos until the end of the year and has scored eight goals and set up four more in 17 matches this season.
