Neymar considers retirement after Santos contract ends

Neymar has said he may retire from club football when his Santos contract runs out in December. The 34-year-old made the comments at a charity auction he organised in São Paulo.

Neymar leaves retirement door open

He said he would think about whether to remain at Santos, join another club or end his career once the deal is over. “I really don’t know what I will do,” he said, adding that he is taking things “step by step” and “game by game”.

Neymar also said he feels physically fine. The forward had already announced his retirement from international football after Brazil’s exit in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup against Norway.

Father plays down the idea

Neymar da Silva Santos, his father and agent, brushed aside the suggestion that his son might stop playing. He said Neymar loves football and asked what else he would do.

He also joked that Neymar had not yet finished medical school, so he would keep playing. Neymar, Brazil’s all-time top scorer, returned to Santos after spells at Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
