Olise beats Pelé to World Cup assist record

Michael Olise has broken Pelé’s long-standing World Cup assist record after finishing the 2026 tournament with seven. The France midfielder created two goals for Kylian Mbappé in the third-place play-off against England to move clear at the top of the all-time list for a single edition.

Pelé had held the benchmark since the 1970 World Cup, when he recorded six assists for Brazil. No player has posted seven assists in one tournament since official World Cup assist records began in 1966.

Olise also provided assists for Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola during France’s run to the last four. That made him one of France’s key attacking players across the competition.

The source also says his form has drawn fresh attention from major European clubs, although Bayern Munich do not want to sell and plan to keep him at the centre of their future project.
