Orlando Gill has emerged as one of the standout names of the 2026 World Cup after his penalty heroics for Paraguay against Germany put him on the radar of Europe’s biggest clubs.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper saved one spot-kick in the shootout and helped Paraguay knock out a traditional heavyweight on the way to the round of 16. He had already built a growing reputation before the tournament, but the display in the pressure moment has pushed his name into wider circulation.
Gill now has an even tougher task ahead, with France and Kylian Mbappé next on Paraguay’s schedule. His composure and confidence have been central to Paraguay’s run, and his performances have also drawn fresh attention from clubs in Europe.
Gill plays for San Lorenzo in Argentina. Before the World Cup, his representatives had already offered him to several European sides, with a move then valued at around €3m to €4m. His contract includes a €10m release clause, although San Lorenzo own only 50 per cent of his transfer rights, with the other half held by his agent.
