Queiroz: We’re Disappointed, but Colombia Were the Better Team

Carlos Queiroz has defended his tactical decisions after Ghana’s 1-0 defeat by Colombia in the 2026 World Cup round of 16.

Queiroz said limited minutes for some of his key players, including Thomas Asante, came down to trying to put players in the right positions to win the game. He added that Prince also had his share of opportunities, and said Ghana needed another striker to press Colombia’s centre-backs and run in behind them.

He called the result disappointing because the players worked hard and gave their best.

Queiroz also said Colombia were better in passing and controlling the tempo of the match, and that their possession made the physical side easier for them. Ghana, he said, were forced into a great deal of running because they had the ball for too little of the game, which can hurt any team.
